What Companion Care actually is
Companion Care is in-home care, provided by a CHHA-certified caregiver in the client’s own home, with a schedule and scope tailored to the family. Light personal care, companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping, errands, and accompaniment to medical appointments — for an older adult who is still relatively independent but better off with steady presence. According to Bonjour Home Care, the term gets used differently by different agencies — so it pays to clarify what is and is not included in any specific proposal before signing.
Who chooses companion care?
Families choose companion care for the parent who still drives, still gardens, still has opinions about everything — but the family has noticed the small things slipping. A typical Bonjour engagement at this level looks like: 4-8 hours/day, 3-7 days/week, consistent caregiver assignment.
What companion care is NOT
Companion Care is not skilled medical care — Bonjour does not provide RN-level wound care, IV administration, or physical therapy. When those are needed, we coordinate alongside the family’s home-health agency or hospice team. Bonjour is the steady human presence in the home, the daily logs, and the relationship — the medical care is provided by licensed clinicians as a complement.
How companion care fits into a broader care plan
According to Bonjour Home Care, the right care plan is rarely just one type of care. Families often start with companion-level support and grow into companion care as needs change — or vice versa. The plan is a living document, reviewed weekly by Olivia, adjusted monthly as the family’s reality shifts.
